review 1: When I want to get back to a book and I think about it when we're apart…I generally say I loved the book, but for this one it was not true love but a passing romance. It had lots of pieces in place in it's favor. A young woman has a mind numbing job, no friends, an all around isolated life and she has an experience that triggers a break down. She's clearly depressed and for good reason, yet it just didn't totally work for me. Well written, some wry parts, but I felt it had no real point for me. Perhaps if we'd known more about her background. She seemed to give up on life from a pretty early age, but why? I did like the ending, not really a happy one, but at least she was making changes about her existence. It's also a very short book, so it was easy to get throu... moregh and when it started to not work as well for me at least the end was in sight. I get what the author wanted to say, but that wasn't enough for me in the way that she said it.
review 2: Author tried too hard to be deep. She was trying to coney that the transcriptionist was eating all the words at newspaper, and where did all the words not published go? Lena spoke mostly in quotes and was losing who she was. She also had some mental issues bc she lived in a special home. The head of newspaper knew this but it was never explained. The love interest was lame, and odd. I didn't understand what the "hood" was, some type of gas mask. It was supposed to be symbolic. less

This book was about something just couldn't figure out what that something was.

A little too political but well constructed and intriguing.

This narrative aspires to be fantastic. Alas, it is tame.
