review 1: It took me a few chapters to adjust to Spalding's writing style, but once I did, I fell in love with her characters and voice. THE REECE MALCOLM LIST is a great book about mothers and daughters, first love, and best of all, musicals. A former musical theater buff myself, I loved all of the detail included about rehearsing and performing a show (brought back so many memories *sniff*) and really loved Devan's journey to figure out how she fit into her mother's life. Great read!
review 2: Cute boys, moving schools and leading choirs. Devan is adorkable. She is shown as very talented, and pretty... yet we can see her insecurities all the time. Spalding explores the issue of having a mother all her life, that she knew nothing about until her father passed away. As a
... more character, Devan deals with a mother who has 'ignored' her for numerous years with no explanation or apology. While her mother has been placed on a golden pedestal, Devan does some research of her own. The results come compiled in a list, made throughout the book. With L.A. and New City school described in amazing detail, this book is widedly funny. less

Cute. I enjoyed the secondary character development much more than I enjoyed getting to know Devan.
