review 1: I picked this book up when it was free and quickly forgot I had it. After reading a slew of Christmas books this holiday season, I was looking for a cute read to cleanse my proverbial palate, but this book ended up leaving me with a bit of a "sour taste in my mouth". The book was good, but only up to a point. The focus is more on the people than on the bakery side of the heroine's life, in fact it seemed as though the bakery was thrown in as an afterthought. For it to be *spoiler alert* such a linchpin in the development of the relationship between the hero and heroine, I felt it needed to take a much bigger role in the story. Maybe the customers are special in some way, but we never get to see that. *end alert* The reader is never given many details into the charac... moreter's lives, we're given flat, static reasons as to why the character is this way and they are almost clinical in their detachment from the emotions that made them into the people they are today. This makes it slightly difficult to connect to the characters, at least to this reader's mind. *possible spoiler alert* The relationship is fast paced, but believable, especially to this reader, having re-discovered my own high school sweetheart relationship. However, the ending was very rushed and skipped over many key details that I would have liked to see explained. For example, what happened to Kara's things like furniture, since one can only assume she moves in to Jason's townhouse? Does she keep the extra help on at the bakery? How well were her new creations received upon her return to Austin? Do they eventually get pregnant? *end possible spoiler alert* Answers to these questions may have tied the ending up a bit better. In the end, I wanted to enjoy this book, but really had to struggle to finish it, ending with the desire to delete it from my Kindle and not read it again. Seems a shame, since it did have a good bit of potential going for it.
review 2: OK, two days in and I'm giving up. Granted, this is doing wonders for my ability to sleep at night, so if I get another bout of insomnia, I might pick it up again. The premise is a cute one and I expected this to be the kind of chick lit that I like. However, the characters are flat, the dialog is high school level, and I just feel Blah about the whole thing. Perhaps my disappointment in what I thought was going to be a light-hearted filler book is making me harsher than the book deserves, but I doubt it. less

An ordinary story of ordinary people falling in love. A nice, comfortable read.
