review 1: It's my fault, really. I didn't realise this was YA - it was in the SF section at my usually reliable, favourite local bookstore and I had challenged myself to read more spec fix by women writers. I don't mind well written, compelling YA at all - in fact some of it is up there with the books I love most. But I didn't love this book at all. While the premise was interesting, the story was slight and the characters criminally under-developed. It really went nowhere interesting.
review 2: A very polite book - I felt like the author was holding back with her writing, and I also didn't like some of the plot developments - some of them jsut didn't make sense from a human point of view. The main character just so blithely accepts everything she is told, it just wouldn... more't happen (mind you - neither does time travel, but who I am to argue that point!). I suppose it is a good time travel book for younger YA readers. less
