review 1: Looking for the literary equivalent of a soap opera? This is your book. This story is drama-filled to the point of being over the top. Every dramatic twist you can think of is in here: business tycoons with their empires, family drama, adoptions, love affairs, murders, etc. The last 100 pages felt like they were trying to out-do the previous pages making me want to nearly give up as it was all too much.
review 2: It took me forever to read this book, which is strange because the writing is good and the story is engaging. However, I disliked all of the characters. There was no one to cheer for because these people were all seriously warped. I think, since I would guess that the reader is supposed to cheer for Claudia, that there needed to be more of Claud... moreia in the book, and then make her more like-able. Although the most normal character, she played too much on her victimhood by her totally self-absorbed and vicious family members. And the bad things that happened to the characters -- well, in general, they all deserved what they got. less
