review 1: This book is melancholy and poetic in the best way. It follows a girl through her journey to find out what her estranged mother was like after she dies in a motorcycle accident. It takes place in Los Angeles which I didn't realize when I picked it up, but happens to fit with my hopes to fall in love with my new city. It was beautiful, but also sad and a bit plot-less at times. I enjoyed it, but wouldn't necessarily recommend it.
review 2: I did enjoy the author's use of language in this book, but I had a difficult time believing in the character. It just doesn't seem plausible to me that a 17 year old from London could travel to Los Angeles for her unknown mother's funeral and then be able to cope as well as she did. That disturbed me as well as the gratuitou
... mores sex, which always bothers me. Her search for who her mother really was interested me but again, too many coincidences made it unreal. Therefore I only give it 3 stars. less
