review 2: This book was mildly engaging...After about the first 50 pages I entertained the thought of abandoning it but I pressed on. This book is about a daughter's quest to discover the person that her mom was, a mom that she never knew. The daughter, whose name we were never privy to, flies to California from her homeland of England, after she found
... moreout that her mother, Lily, died in a tragic motorcycle accident. Lily abandoned her daughter 3 years after she gave birth to her, which was at the very young age of 14. Turns out Lily was a party girl, who was quite the looker, and who many men fell in love with. The daughter finds clues to who her mom was through items she owned and through people who knew her mom. I was drawn to this book because I liked the idea of the main character unraveling a mystery, but there were aspects of the book that just didn't appeal to me. The daughter, as another reviewer said, just was not a person that was really that likable. She had slightly depraved values, like stealing, promiscuity, and lying. Towards the end, I just couldn't WAIT to be done with the book so I could go on to the next, hopefully way better book. The author's writing is OK, but a bit quirky, and I don't know if that is due to the fact that she is British and I am from the states. I recommend it if you want a quick read and one that isn't very deep...it is perfect for summer reading. I like books, however, that I get more out of... less
