The Bible is the most special treasure any person can ever own!
review 2: It's interesting to try to put oneself back a century ago. I'm wondering what it could have been like to be the ordinary bloke?blokess who didn't have access to scholarship but who had an enquiring mind. I can see that this annotated bible would have been a remarkable and e3xciting study guide for many, many peopl... moree.I came to a study of Christianity off the stgreet, not through academia originally, and I was very fortunate to discover, almost immediately, some modern (metaphorical, etc.) thinkers and theologians. It6 was a delight to find out that it wasn't just people who had been brought up with no religion who were seeking for something further than the literal. I'm trying to imagine what it might have been like for me a hundred years ago. If I had had the same enquiring mind, and the same impatience with people who want to tell me what I should believe, I wonder how I might have reacted to this book. Certainly, it would have been an eye-opener - explanations of words and phrases, information about life 2000 years ago - but in no way would it have satisfied my search for an honest and open journey of discovery.Nevertheless, it would have been an extraordinary find. I can see why the authors (of 100 Christian Books that Changed the Century) have it on their list. less
