review 1: This was my favorite book for a long time, and it's still way up there on my list! One of my favorite things about this book is that most of the characters are just normal people who ended up in weird situations, so there's nothing special about them until they're put under pressure. Too many of the books I read are focused on the special people, not people readers can relate to. This is a brilliant story - I would definitely recommend it.
review 2: Recommended to me by one of my great teen readers a year ago and embarrassingly only just read it. As she told me, it is really good and would make a good readaloud (for middle school or older) as it's a mythological story within a story that comes together in a beautiful way. Set in India (although written by a Ger
... moreman author and then translated to English) about a girl being forced to become an eighth wife to this man and is afraid she'll be killed and ends up telling the mythical tale of a thief-turned-hero forced to go on a journey and rescue a princess. Lyrical writing, interesting characters, great plot. less

A very well written book though a bit racy to be for young adults.
