review 1: Dark, funny, poignant mix of late-Communist political farce (in Hungary) and the narrator's own grappling with his own forms of narrative confession, this book won the 2008 Best Translated Book Award, and I can see why. I don't know how much, if any, of this narrative comes from Bartis' own life, but the story within this book is gut-wrenching and yet impossible to tear oneself away from. Recommended.
