review 1: I did not like it nearly as much as I like Nora Roberts Land, the first book in this romance series. I liked Jill. She's emotional but it is consistent. Also I really like the fact that she is this emotional, cheerful person that likes bright colors and silly things AND is in the words of Mac " a rainmaker" She can build empires. She just chooses to do it in her lovely hometown. It would have been so easy to make Jill into a typical flighty disorganized mess that Brian would come in to save. She's not. She has her stuff together. Yup she wears her heart on her sleeve and does cry quite a bit. I like that. It is a refreshing chance of pace from some of the heroines I have read as of late. I like quite a bit the promise of the story between Mac and Peggy. I have told myself ... morethat I was not going to buy any new books. I would read the ones I have now. However there was a point in the book when I realized that I was going to add the next book to my Kindle collection. They seem like good people.I still love Grandpa Hale. I would like to go to Dare. It seems like a charming place with their quaint little shops but with the promise of bigger and better things in the future. The French Lady. I didn't like her and then I did like her. I want her to have a happy ending now too.I didn't like Brian. Brian is the hero. I think the reason I don't much care for Brian is because in another story Brian could have been the abusive boyfriend who is the last act is killed by the ghost of Jemma while Jill is saved by someone much more worthy of her. Maybe that is another problem. I was thinking how Jill could do so much better than Brian. So overall I really like the book. Ava Miles does a GREAT JOB on characters. They have layers. Their actions for the most part are very understandable.
review 2: This was not a great follow up book in this series. Jill and Brian are horribly immature and whiny, and it was hard to feel any connection to them, much less root for them as a couple. Jill needs a smack upside the head, and Brian needs a good dose of man-up - and that had nothing to do with his being a chef! The constant lies between these two was tiresome as it was grating. I barely forced myself to finish this book, and now I'm torn - do I buy Peggy and Mac's book? less
