review 1: While totally hitting the "dominant male" romance buttons for paranormal romance, this fantasy (in a steampunk "lite" alternate England) missed some of my other buttons.If you're in the mood for steampunk where it's just an understood part of the landscape instead of a chance to come up with cool gadgets, and a magical component that is utterly unexplained, and want to hang around with a feisty heroine while she gets herself into various kinds of trouble while hunting down her father's artifacts while she simultaneously dodges a serial killer-- than this book is just the kind of easy, beach read you're looking for.Unfortunately, I've a bit jaded in the steampunk romance arena. While I enjoy "broken" heroines and heroes, the two main characters in this book didn't seem to s... morehow any of the lovely angsting or working-through-emotions (beyond one scene where the heroine realizes that despite her aversion to any kind of touch, the hero can touch her no problem) that usually result from tragic pasts.*whines* bring on the angsting! And the cool gadgets! Not quite my cup of tea, so to speak.
review 2: I THINK THIS IS ONLY THE SECOND STEAMPUNK BOOK I HAVE READ AND I LOVED IT. I ACTUALLY HAD IT ON MY CURRENTLY READING SHELF A FEW DAYS BEFORE READING IT. NEEDLESS TO SAY I STARTED IT YESTERDAY AND COULD HARDLY PUT IT DOWN! I FINISHED IT TONIGHT. I LOVE THE CHARACTERS, THE STORYLINE, ROMANCE AND GRUESOME PARTS ALL IN ONE BOOK. I HAVE NOT READ A BOOK LIKE THIS BEFORE AND LOOK FORWARD TO READING MORE IN THIS SERIES. I THINK ALL FANS OF THIS GENRE WILL LOVE IT! less
