review 1: The book I read was called '' Grey Eyes'' by Brandon Alston. In this book there is war between vampires and witches that millions of people have know idea that this is occurring. Anastasia, or ana, lives in the middle of the woods with her mom making no contact with any one besides at school. One night Ana wakes up to her mom banging on the door telling her to hide. The first place she moves to is under her bed. After a while waiting under her bed Ana can hear her mothers screams & voices. Ana knows they're looking for her but she doesn't know why. I would recommend this book to people who enjoys si-fi teamed books.
review 2: This is one of those books that I can't be sure if I really liked or not. I think it certainly had a great history set up involving vam
... morepires and witches - how they were created and the story of their battles against each other for centuries. I thought this was an interesting turn and had great potential. The story is a bit standard as far as the idea of a young girl who is miserable in her plain normal life finds herself thrust into a paranormal world where she is powerful and wanted and hunted at all turns. This plot is getting a bit old for me and add to that the same plot point of the young heroine being torn between two perfect men who love her. The handling was only slightly different in this case, but again, its something that is being used over and over again and it loses the dramatic purpose. The usage of real historical figures was put in and I saw it as an attempt to had some validity to the ideas presented, but in truth, I don't know if it really added to the story.Still, there were fresh ideas introduced regarding magic and the structure of the witches and that was something I found wanting to know more about. The thing that really tripped up this book was that it became rather convoluted. The secret of Ana, the main character, and her past was held over our heads for a long time and her relationship with the 'mysterious boy' was threaded out to the point where I wanted to shout at them to get to the point already (and not in a positive excited way). As more of the book unfolded, I found more mythology being presented and it began knotting up an already tangle story. By the end, I was more annoyed (knowing this was a trilogy I didn't expect it to end tidily) that all of this was being shoved in there, as if the writers realized they'd gone a long time and this had to be introduced. Perhaps they felt this was a grand reveal that was a pay off for the read, but it didn't feel that way. The writing was good and kept the story moving along, though I wished there had been... more. It was a fun read and I had actually wanted to finish it to see how it ended and what happened. I wish the structure had been more sturdy for it. less
