review 1: Well...wow. This one really surprised me. I'm not one for the YA genre, but this one was pleasantly refreshing. None of that whiny mess that goes on in most YA novels. Then again the main protag is starting his first year of college...and a guy..nothing like that 35 year old guy/woman perspective like we seen in beautiful creatures, but an ACTUAL close resemblance of how the young male mind work. But I digress. This one starts off how I love a story starting off, someone's getting their ass kicked! Yep, from the start of the book there's a fight, and during said fight the author explains to us that "slow motion" effect that people who fight quite a bit tell you about. How everything seems to slow down and you can anticipate your opponents next move.Well this ability for our ... moremain Protag is part of his "sight" or power as a mage. Yes, he is a mage but has no idea, I mean come on a normal Las Vegas Teenager knows there's no such thing as monsters and magic...right?Completely off topic, but I don't do reviews in the conventional sense. I wonder just how sexy Rei's ass looks, she seems to keep throwing our main protag off his game...then again a virgin gazing upon an ass that looks like a perfect sculpture..well shit that might throw me off my game too...shit, i'm rambling again.Anyways, the book is pretty good, a nice amount of action and a great deal of story, I like how their world is painted and we can get wrapped up in the inner workings, I didn't really like the ending, it seemed to be too rushed to wrap up, but it works out sorta...Going to start on the next book in the series when I can, really hope the momentum of this book keeps going in the next.
review 2: The fantasy aspect of this book right up my alley. The way the protagonist thinks and talks to himself is something that I can relate with. It has that sense of dry wit and humor that always entertains me. Development of plot and events leads one wanting but over all I find this book entertaining. Since there's still so much more to discover and resolve in this series, you can't help but want to read on to the next book. Which is exactly what I'm going to do in the next few minutes. less

I enjoyed the series but I also loved Demon Accords so that shows my preferences pretty clearly.
