review 1: WARNING SPOILERS BELOW:I don't usually add a critique but others need to be warned away from this book. I really wanted to like it, I thought I had potential, but it drastically failed to live up to my expectations. If you don't like the typical Athurian love triangle- Do Not Read This Book.I plot moved too fast and felt jumbled and chaotic. For example: She agrees to marry him and falls in love with him in a week. The transition between actions did not flow. Like, there are visiting his father and all of a sudden there is a plot to kidnap her so they escape to her parents house.Nothing was explained in this book!We are told she is the most beautiful woman in the world, but not why.We are told she is special, but not why.We are told she has a pure white aura, but not what ... moreit means. Her fiance is keeping a secret from her, that everyone knows about except her, and we don't find out what it is until about 75% into the book. The secret? He is fated to die ten years after marrying her. He doesn't even try to fight it!! And, some may say this was sweet, but I kinda think it was a jerk move- he found her soulmate and hired him to protect her in the hopes that they would fall in love either before or after his death. There are some other minor things like, the author says it has been 2 years since her first love/ fiance died. Then we are told it was 4 years, then back to 2.The world system is completely unexplained. And we never know what anyone is thinking, not even the main character. The thing that I disliked the most was the confusion that resulted from her style of writing and the fact that he doesn't try to avoid his fate. Oh! and I almost forgot to mention that he doesn't even say goodbye to his family when he leaves for his death.
review 2: I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. This is a very fascinating, well written story with likable characters. Leila is a great character. She is fearless and can be very comical with her enemies. She is intelligent and very protective of those she loves. King Nalick is not what she expected. This is a very good, touching story with a twist that I found very heart breaking. Not all books have a happily ever after but a happily for now can be great too! Wonderful book for YA readers as well as adults. less
