review 1: I can't say I would have read this on my own, this book came from Grams so I must. She enjoyed it immensely. I struggle reading about the Kennedys. It is hard to discern truth from legend. The heart of this legend starts with Rose, she created the magical space it became. According to her, she was just a good Catholic mother who raised nine children: one president and three senators. With her story I'm not sure if I love her or loathe her. She lost four children far too early, but my loathing of her rests with Rosemary and her need to gloss. Perry is fair, but there is a bit of legend mixed in.
review 2: This is a very fine book, though I found the many, many citations a little overwhelming to the flow of the book. I've read many books on Rose Kennedy, and this
... more was by far the most comprehensive and full of interesting little facts that I had not read elsewhere. The use of the family letters was really wonderful. You really get a sense of what an incredible woman Rose was, even if she might today be called a "helicopter" parent as the author said. Highly recommend this book. less
