review 1: Connor, B. (2010). The Fantastic Secret of Owen Jester. New York: Farrar, Straus and Giroux.Fiction Choice - Realistic Fiction; Humorous FictionStarred Review, School Library Journal, Kirkus Reviews, Book PageIn this adventurous story, a young boy named Owen and his family live in a small town called Carter, Georgia. When Owen's dad loses his job, he and his family have to move across town to his grandfather's house. Owen has to move away from his best friends and gets stuck living next to nosy Viola, who he doesn't like very much. After Owen catches what he believes is the best bull frog from Graham Pond, Viola tells him he should let it go! There she goes putting her nose in other people's business! Owen discovers the biggest thing to ever happen in Carter, Georgia ... moreand needs Viola's help. But can Viola keep his secret and help him out at the same time? This book was an enjoyable read and I would recommend it for independent reading for 4th through 8th grade students.
review 2: Barbara O'Connor seems to be an OBoB author favorite. This tale is simple and readable for the younger grades. Somehow - this simple books is hard to summarize in 20 words of less. Boys have a captured frog - a pond nearby and find a small sub thrown from railway car. Know-it-all neighbor girl is book smart and socially off. They end up working together to get sub to pond -to see finally released frog back in pond. Viola. less

The title was so much more exciting than the actual book.

2 1/2 stars. Quite juvenile without a lot happening.
