review 1: I like the way that the author sets out the story and builds up the tension in a family drama. I kept on reading at one point just to get to the point where it was revealed why Cat was screaming. Reading the book it would seem that there are less than six degrees of separation, everyone seem to be connected and know each other. After reading a book by a British writer set in America where the language choices and vocab choices were British and not American, it is nice to read a novel where the author gets it right, that mobile phones are called cell phones or cells in South Africa. Even though she grew up in South Africa, she has obviously kept up to date with South African affairs.
review 2: I really enjoyed this. There's not a lot to it, the ending (where the
... more two couples swap round) was embarrassingly predictable and the young daughter's voice (like, like, like) was stereotyped and trite. But...despite all that, it was an easy and absorbing read. And I have to admit I was really completely invovled and horrified when Caroline discovers that her mother, whose mortgage she has been paying to her own detriment, has left everything to her other daughter. Awful. less

Finding the narrative a little too jerky for my taste; it doesn't flow.

As always with Trapido, a well written book, but not one of her best.
