review 1: I just don't think I am the right audience for this book. I want nonfiction to be *nonfiction.* I'm not crazy about reconstructed journal entries. On the other hand, I think this could be compelling reading for a young person just learning about the Titanic sinking. Somehow I am reminded of that series, "Childhood of Famous Americans," in which the author makes up, "whole cloth," conversations with famous historical figures. Isn't history interesting enough on its own without this sort of need for invention?
