review 1: Possibly I wasn't in the right mood, but it didn't grab me. It was written very poetically, when I was more in the mood for some action and drama. Written from the perspective of an old lady on the cusp of life and death worked well, and Jonsberg managed to convey the weariness well - which is perhaps why I grew weary of the story relatively easily. Recommended for people who value writing over plot, but it wasn't my thing.
review 2: At first it sucked me in, made me curious, charmed me with words, but at the end, that is all I was left with. Words. It was so confusing at times! ... more had written this book. But that was at the beginning, before the cruel mother and just, plain wrongness happened. Skipped through quite a lot concerning the mother and her cruel self-righteous ways. There are so many other things to rant about, but so as not to offend anyone, this will be just another book on my read shelf. less
