review 1: This was such a dark and disturbing book but also really beautiful with a surprisingly happy ending. The author developed the characters so thoroughly that I felt like I was really transported into the head of a 18 year old addict. However, I found it to be a bit frustrating about the secret of why Zach is at this rehab center & what horrible event happened in his life. You didn't find out until around 200 pages into the 239 page book, which I personally felt dragged it out for too long. Nonetheless, the book evoked emotion in me and left me in tears at some parts. I'd be interested in reading another of Benjamin Alire Saenz's books to really get a grasp on this author's style. All in all, it was a decent book but I'm not sure I would necessary recommend it to an... moreyone.
review 2: As a recovering addict I could relate to Zach. He is emotionally scarred and can't remember what it is he's hiding from. Or who. I really, really liked Raphael. As an older person, if I was ever in this situation, I'd like to think I'd be like Raphael. Old and wise, and helping youngsters to understand. This book is about love, forgiveness and redemption. I thoroughly enjoyed it. (And I suck at reviews. Sorry.) less

Kind of weird, but I liked it. Very raw emotion and writing.
