review 1: I read the Gentleman's Edition, so did not find it particularly explicit in either profanity or gore. It was an interesting read, covering the Whitechapel murders and drawing together historical fact, Arthur Conan Doyle's famous characters and an interesting supposition on the identity of Jack the Ripper. The book kept me amused and entertained throughout, although there were times when I had to flick back to keep track of the large amount of characters introduced. Certainly an entertaining book to wile away a few hours, although it lost one star due to the number of typos I found in the Kindle edition.
review 2: **Spoilery review**: The "Ripper" back story was fairly well done but needed polishing for the wrap up. The plot otherwise was decent and the book
... morewould have earned three stars if it wasn't for the complete off-kilter portrayal of Holmes, Watson, Lestrade, and Adler. I can understand wanting to stretch a characters potential but it crashed and burned for me in this book on all four characters. The worst instance being Watson/Adler's one night stand after she was nearly raped. Just completely WRONG for both characters. less
