review 1: Although I am not religious, don't really believe in God, definitely don't believe in Jesus as son-of-God, I enjoyed reading about the author's spiritual journey. I never felt she was forcing her beliefs on me or judging me for not believing. It was a heartfelt exploration of her faith and transformation, and how she dealt with being raped and the emotional/spiritual aftermath and healing process. Worth reading, even for heathens. It may even help to make me more open-minded!
review 2: It was tough reading about her rape. But her strength and determination in the aftermath is inspiring. She is tremendously courageous, even when she is afraid. She goes on an amazing spiritual journey, one that becomes a physical journey, too. There is a lot to think about in... more this book. The writing is wonderful, and the fact that Beverly Donofrio is so self-effacing prevents the narrative from getting preachy. I was really moved by this book. less
