review 1: This book was a huge letdown. When I heard about the premise of the book (an Amish man falling for an "English" girl), I thought it would be a nice change of pace from the usual Amish girl/Amish guy romance. But the story idea was carried out in a way that seemed completely absurd and turned into a cliche romance where a simple misunderstanding is blown way out of proportion and keeps the two characters away from each other.I loathed Amelia/Amy Lee. I thought she was very bratty with her insistence on playing her violin at the Amish people's house. They asked her not to play inside the house or in the yard because music is not allowed. But what does she do?? Disrupt everyone with her music anyway. The last part of the book read like a travel guide for Europe, what with ... morethe endless discussion of Amelia's musical tour.I felt like the relationship between Michael & Amelia was way too rushed. The European tour chapters could've been cut down to spend more time building a BELIEVABLE romance between the two characters.Beverly Lewis might be the queen of Amish fiction, but I'm never reading any of her books again. This is the 4th of 5th book of hers that I've tried to read and there is something about her writing style that bothers me. I've only liked maybe 1 or 2 of her books. It seems like she tries too hard to make her characters seem deep and it just comes off as cheesy. Plus, she uses too many italicized internal thoughts. Half the time, they aren't even necessary.
review 2: I checked this out from the library and it took me less than two days to read. Which seemed like a long time to me because it was so good but alas I have to go to work and sleep...sometimes. I'm a sucker for a good Amish Romance and Beverly Lewis never disappoints. I loved that we heard from a man's point of view as well as a woman's so that made it interesting. I'll be checking out the next book in the series asap. less
