review 1: I must admit that I completely missed the hint in the blurb that indicated that this was a book with paranormal elements. I was fully prepared for the other dark elements on the book (ie., forced imprisonment, non/dub consent, BDSM), I just didn't realize how important the emphasis on human in human-trafficking was. That said, Bianca has delivered yet another enjoyable read. I enjoyed the relationship between Joe & Lydia, even when he was being an unreasonable ass. I appreciated that their relationship continued to evolve once they escaped and the way in which it did. And I must say that the party at the end of the book was to die for. While I am a huge fan of Bianca's Dartmouth Cobras series, I enjoyed the way she dealt with the supernatural elements in this novel and I lo... moreok forward to rereading it when I'm in the mood for a supernatural book as I suspect I will enjoy it even more the second time around.
review 2: This story crosses so many genres, it's difficult to say exactly where it fits... dark erotica meets psychological thriller meets paranormal, perhaps? In any case, it was extremely well written. I understand the subject matter will horrify some people, it's definitely not everybody's cup of tea, but while reading about rape, abduction and humiliation, it was the strength of the human survival instinct which I found myself dwelling on. The story melded in such a way that I didn't even realise it was a paranormal, at first. The characters unfold slowly, and change within the story to reflect their trauma and development during their struggles. I loved it, for all its brutality and "hope overcomes" plot line. Not many will. less
