review 1: A good read. The book was a gift and I thought it was going to follow the formulaic sports biography, but it is just leading up to the tdf failures and tribulations (hope that's not a spoiler). I found the training talk interesting in what worked well for him on the bike and mentally. Leading up to the tdf in each season is also looked at which is interesting, I'm not sure a non-cycling fan would find this as interesting though.
review 2: A fascinating insight into arguably Britain's most famous racing cyclist (sorry Sir Chris) and his life as he prepares for and competes in the history making 2012 Tour de France and Olympic Games. This book does not cover his earlier life, which is dealt with in his earlier book "Pursuit of Glory". What it does cover is the
... moreimpact on his career and that of his colleagues and friends of the exposure of Armstrong and others as drug cheats. It is clearly something about which he feels deeply and which worries him regarding the effect it will have on his own legacy.I very much enjoyed this book and feel that I have a better grasp of his life over and above what we see on TV and read in the media. Having been a racing cyclist myself, in days long past, I can relate to his experiences. less
