review 1: I enjoy memoirs, but they can leave you with a heavy heart. I could personally write a memoir about childhood brokenness. However, I think the message from these types of books is somewhat the same as the message from my experience - the human spirit tries really hard, with varying success, to overcome great and terrible obstacles and trials. It is true of my life. I have had to put a great deal of work into the healing process and I think that is a place where the degree of success can be affected.

... morese Skyhorse endured. I cringed while I read this book - the scenes are painful. I didn't mind the style of writing, but I feel like Skyhorse wrote the book more for himself than an audience. It was hard to stay hooked to this book, especially when relief or release didn't seem to come for the author in adulthood. less

Liked the first half a lot but towards the end, it just seemed to get a little tired and whiny.
