review 1: I agree and then some... Well written and honest critique, Karissa. The bus driver was a total put-off for me. Seems as if Skyhorse used some of the characters to spew bigotry. That whole bit of "...Mexicans being the new Niggers.." Pffft! Really?! When were you NOT?! Where were you when people marched together for civil rights?! DO YOU NOT KNOW THAT LATINOS WERE BEING DRAFTED AT THE SAME RATE FOR VIETNAM? What planet does he live on? Jesus. I just couldn't finish it and I think it is an inartful attempt at scholarly work. A confusing and shallow plot; derogatory and historically incorrect observations; unfulfilled claims of interrelated characters in the Author's Note. Not good. Go back to school and get it right, Skyhorse, you're doing it wrong.
review 2: I
... moreliked this book very much. A caution...you have to read it when you're wide awake and alert or you'll get lost. The author changes the main character with each chapter, but the character has been part of one or more of the previous stories. It takes careful reading and a good memory to figure out how he/she fits into the whole but it's intriguing. Although the lives of the people the author describes is foreign to me, their stories make me much more sympathetic to their plights. less

I really wanted to like this book, but ultimately, I just wasn't a fan of the writing style.
