review 1: I read this book for the "Deep Laws of the Cosmos" part of the title and not so much for the "Parallel Universes" part of the title. The book takes each potential parallel universe theory at a time and explains the physics behind each theory. For the most part, this results in a fairly good (though very basic) summary of quantum physics, gravity, relativity, string theory. However, sometimes the discussion of the physical laws (quantum probability, for example) gets divided between two or among several chapters instead of being cohesively presented together. This, of course, is because some aspects of the theory are necessary for the particular version of parallel universes being discussed in that chapter, while other aspects are necessary to other versions of parallel... more universe theories. I would have preferred a more cohesive exposition of the physical laws and a little less discussion of parallel universes. But that probably means I should have read a different book. And I think I will. That being said, I thought Brian Greene did a good job of making difficult theories and principles accessible. In fact, when I choose another book like this, I'll look for Brian Greene's name.
review 2: This was a pretty heavy read. If I read it two or three more times, I might have a rudimentary grasp of about 50% of the concepts outlined within the book. As is, I'm left with a head reeling with a vague sense of just how small my everyday reality is compared to the vastness of the astrophysicist's view of things. A worthwhile read, but I won't be reading anything that requires that much brain power for quite a while. less

Another great book. Another book I need to read 2-3 times to fully comprehend all of the material.

One of the best science books for the layman by a world-class physicist and brilliant expositor.

Extremely dense, but mind-blowing. Requires a couple read-throughs.
