review 1: This book left me with a better overall impression than each of its parts considered individually. It has some very interesting ideas and is fairy engaging, but there are far too many characters - it was hard to keep track of them all, and many were introduced and then basically dropped after a few chapters. The pacing was also a bit uneven - nothing much happens for most of the book, and then the last section is packed with action. I enjoyed reading it as long as I didn't focus too directly on the plot holes, lack of detail and explanation, and scientific implausibilities. Still, this is a good bet if you're looking for an exciting story that combines elements of a medical thriller, paranormal science fiction, and action adventure.
review 2: I found this book
... moreto be fascinating--the idea of a virus being modified so that a person could have immunity, and of course, the plot of taking various methods to disseminate a bad virus so that large amounts of people perish. Ironically, the woman who first survived a bad virus, has a husband and son die in an accident. This author has a medical background. He is a surgeon, so knows whereof he writes. I look forward to more of his writing. less

I loved it, but wish I had read "Amanda's Story" first. Although, it certainly wasn't necessary.
