review 1: Well, where do I start? It was a fast-paced and gripping story, which holds your attention till the end and makes you want to pick up the sequel immediately ! I really liked the male protagonist, but a bit iffy about the female protagonist.Ceci is a not a typical high school student, she is smart, determined and fierce. Her father was killed 7 years ago and she applies for an nternshop at Leighton Enterprises in hope to solve the mystery, which police wasn’t capable of doing due to lack of evidence and eyewitnesses. She has to lie about her age and education in order to get the internship, but she gets the place and starts working under Bentley Leighton. The chemistry between Ceci and Bentley sparked immitiately they met at the interview. They both knew it was inappropri... moreate, but they couldn’t resist to it.The first installment ends with a cliffhanger, which leaves readers with several questions. Will Ceci’s and Bentley’s chemistry going to last? Will Ceci find out who and why killed her father? What happens between them, when Bentley finds her under the desk, where she was hidden after snooping in his office? What happens, when Bentley finds out the truth about Ceci’s real age?The intern, Volume 1 has an interesting story line, enough mystery and romance, which will keep your interest until the end.
review 2: 2 stars, maybe less but since it was free I feel bad to give it one star. If I had realized this was a mix of high school and new adult, I would not have started it. Ceci is only 18, poses as 22, and lies her way into an internship with a company that I still don't understand what it does. Something about crime reporting, compiling investigative reports on active and cold criminal cases? It was never clear to me. Ceci wants to investigate her father's murder, a seven year old cold case, and thinks she can find out info by hacking into this company's files. The CEO's son, Bentley (total rich kid name, nailed that at least) is her supervisor. Bentley is 26 and resents being shoved into the family business earlier than he wants and while he's smart and can do the work, he'd rather be back to his lazy modeling days. The characterizations of Ceci and Bentley are all over the place. It felt like the author wanted to incorporate every hot character type - alpha male, smart guy, nice guy, dirty guy, innocent girl, savvy girl, sneaky girl, confused girl - and mix it all together. But only one type at a time, then it changes. There are high school scenes - yes, Ceci is still in HIGH SCHOOL, which clashes with the extremely graphic sex scene later on. But I guess it's all ok since she's 18. Ceci's pov also talks to the reader, breaking the fourth wall (If you think you know me, if you think you know what will happen, that sort) which I dislike. I am not into this story at all. Glad I didn't pay for this serial, and I won't be reading on. less
