review 1: This non-fiction short story about the Salem Witch Trials was just okay for me. I was really hoping for more information and accounts of the witches & their actions. I did learn a few new things about the trials themselves. For some reason the following quote really jumped out at me, enough to highlight and save it: "Witch-hunts clarify good and evil wherever rapid change has muddled the moral waters. Cry "witch" or something eqally scandalous, and suddenly malice has a human face...."
review 2: Well, the good thing is that this "book" was short. Like 17 pages short. The bad thing is that had I been reading this as an American history professor or even a high school social studies teacher, it would have received a failing grade. It never adequately answered the
... more question posed in the title, which could be forgiven since actual historians disagree. However I would have expected the author to spend more than 1 or 2 sentences on each theory that he oh-so-briefly mentions and would have expected some sort of endorsement or refutation of each.all things considered, the second star in the rating is simply because the topic itself is fascinating, and not because Watson made any sort of good impression. less
