review 1: This is a very quick read. The language is lovely. The young woman, Carolina, is going blind, as her grandmother did, but no one except a married friend understands what she is telling them. They ignore her completely. She does go blind, marries the Count, then receives the typewriter from her friend, Turri. Questions linger: did the count kill Turri? Why did he take up with the servant girl? What happened to her mother? What does this book say about marriage? Interesting little piece!
review 2: A beautiful young girl fears blindness . No one seems to understand her fear if darkness except her friend Turri. Turri marries and they still are friends and Carolina marries and soon after she marries she wakes up one morning and finds she is totally blind. Carolin... morea has a small one room very tiny house on the lake her father built for her as she always wanted to be at the lake and by herself. Her friend Torri is an amatuer inventor and he invests a typewriter for Carolina so she can write notes. Strange ending as you do not know what happens to Carolina when her husband takes her away from their home because of her friendship with Torri. less
