review 1: Brilliant. Beautifully written, well-paced with tension and a slowly developed romance, fully fleshed out characters that I empathized with, a fully explained background for our narrator, and a believable and realistic plot where I could see the rationale for their choices and feel as if I was part of the story. I was completely involved right from the start, and am very impressed with this novella.This is my second read from Cari Z., and I am definitely going to read more of her now. And I will probably reread this one too. It is one of my favorite assassin m/m stories.

When it comes to romance, assassin r... moreomances top my list of toe curling, adventurous guilty pleasures. And this assassin romance hit all the right spots. There is hurt and comfort, protectiveness, an assassin finding his humanity, and a slow simmering love. There are killers, gang members, suspect boyfriends, and recovery from physical injuries. And best of all, there is doubt and uncertainty and second chances. It is a well written story that takes us into a mind of an assassin and makes us sympathetic to him, cheering on his developing love for an unlucky police officer. And despite ending with HEA, it puts Justin and Shawn through a whole ton of crap. I like it! less
