review 1: For a minute there, I thought Swagger was an old-fashioned sports book, you know, like Full Court Press or Drive to the Hoops. I thought it was going to be about good ol' basketball. Oops. It IS a good story with a moral and helpful information, but sometimes I feel so sorry for young people these days who have to deal with dysfunction in every book they read. That being said, a senior move-in varsity basketball player at my school read it last year. He was amazed at how the protagonist Jonas rang true in his own life. He didn't finish the book though, so he never found out about what happened to Jonas' best friend Levi. Perhaps that was a lucky break for the ball player.
review 2: short, quick, easy read. I got through it in a day. It was a decent book,
... morewith lots of conflicts, but I loved how they were all resolved. I didnt think death would be part of this book but im starting to see a pattern with Carl Deuker's books. They all have had death in them somewhere. It shows what really goes on in everyones lives though. Death is normal in this world but most books don't like to show it. Carl isn't afraid of that, he knows what it's like and so does everyone else so he encorporates it into his books which really helps with getting to the feelings of his readers. I love how the sports, death, and sometimes romance get mixed around and changed all the time. I love the way this book was written. less
