review 1: Just Joe by Carla Cassidy is a 2013 Harlequin “More than Words” Special release. This a heart tugging sweet contemporary romance based in part on a real person doing something inspirational for their community. Stacy Donovan had a really tough childhood and then suffered a heartbreak which has her throwing herself heart and soul into a charity campaign that helps feed the hungry. She gardens and raises vegetables for food pantries and those in need. Sounds awesome, but the operation is in dire financial straits. A dance contest similar to “Dancing with the Stars” could be the ticket to saving her charity. When “ Prince Joe” enters Stacy life, her immediate reaction to his wish to help with the charity is that he is some affluent business man nursing a gui... morelty conscience because of his success. It's all she can do to suppress an eye roll. But, once she gets to know him, he explains that these days he is “Just Joe”.Joe suffered the worst pain a human can endure, lost his marriage, and is now on a mission to put people before success and and business. When he meets Stacy there is instant chemistry, but Stacy is a closed door. She opens her gardens and all it's fruit to those in need, but doesn't open her heart to anyone. With Joe in her life, Stacy is beginning to see what she has been missing out on. But , her trust issues are serious and run deep. Will he end up pushing Joe away?I am so glad I saw this and the other books in the “More than Words” special release series being promoted on Facebook the other day. All these books are short stories or novellas and many are free in the Kindle store. All the stories are written around the lives of real people which is such an awesome idea. This was a really great story I think may people are like Stacy and Joe in one way or another and well, I could see why both characters were at this crossroads in their lives and how difficult it would be for Stacy to let someone in. But, she does at least open her eyes before she loses her chance at a fulfilling life with Just Joe. 4 stars!
review 2: The charity highlighted is such a worthy cause and never knew that there was something like it. That is why I gave the story three stars because of the charity. The love story between Joe and Stacy on the other hand just wasn't believable to me at all in such a short period of time. Personally Joe's actions were creepy and then he wouldn't take responsibility for his actions and laid blame on Stacy. Yeah I don't think so. The resolution of the issues again fell completely flat and to me unrealistic. The love story to me only is worth half a star, but the charity work and description was excellent. less
