review 1: Freed slave Katerina pretends to be her mistress when the Varangian guard come to escort the princess back to Constantinople for a marriage alliance. We have a double forbidden romance (that really isn't) plot - warrior bodyguard/princess and ex-slave/wealthy hero. Yes the plot is a little daft but it works well enough and we have the knowledge from the outset that things can all be resolved happily.The best thing about this novel is the Byzantine setting which is wonderful. Its so refreshing to have an 11th century setting that is not focusing on Normans/Saxons in England.Despite having a limp Anglo-Saxon hero Ashfrith is perhaps a little too perfect and similarly heroine Katerina. She's stunningly beautiful and seems surprisingly unscarred despite her traumatic experienc... morees as a slave. I was however rooting for both of them.Great setting and a fairly exciting plot, although oddly no villain. Nice light read.
review 2: İmparator Nikheporos'un yerine General Alexis Komnenos'un geçtiği zamanda işlenmiş bir hikayeydi. Varagian Muhafızları (İmparatora bağlılık yemini etmiş bu muhafızlar) Kumandanı Ashfirth Saxon, Prenses Theodora'yı alıp Konstantinopol'e götürmeye gelmiştir ama prensesin gitmemek için çok büyük nedeni(gerçekten önemli bir neden) vardır. Prensesin yerine onun "Ceylan Gözlü" nedimesi Katerina geçer. Ama ateş ile barut yan yana durmaz derler ya aynen öyle olur. Katerina'nın acı veren geçmişi bu iki aşık arasında önemli bir engeldir (Ya da Katerina böyle düşünmektedir). Yazarın Kardaki Safir kitabına bayılmıştım. Bu kitaba 3,5 yıldız veriyorum. Tarihsel kurguya daha yakın bir tarzı var ve ben böyle kitapları daha çok seviyorum. Ama itiraf etmeliyim ki Anna ve William'ı daha çok merak ediyorum. Yayınevinden ricam çeviri ve edisyona biraz daha özen gösterilmesi. Ayrıca bu yazarı çıkarmaları için çok istekte bulunmuştum, bunu ciddiye alıp uyguladıkları için çok teşekkür ediyorum:) less
