review 1: On the plus side, I now know what a griot is. Having just finished Carole Radziwill's What Remains: A Memoir of Fate, Friendship and Love about her young husband dying of cancer, it was hard not to overlay the two books. Peel off the silly outer wrapping of the novel's foundation--Claire's "sexpert" husband's "love and sex cannot coexist" theory--and you just get another silly layer to peel. Shallow characters, stilted dialogue... and the sense that this book was really just Radziwill venting her own personal frustrations.
review 2: I must begin by saying that I truly love Carole Radziwill's first book, What Remains. It's beautiful!This first crack at fiction just misses the mark for me. I was bored, bored, bored. I'm certainly not the audience for this pi... moreece, and as much as I enjoy the television-Carole, I can't get behind this book. It felt like homework & I couldn't wait to be finished.I'd like to see more nonfiction from Radziwill. less
