review 1: DNF. I don't know if it was me or if it was Hellisen's writing, but I could not for the life of me get into this book. I struggled to get halfway through and then I gave up. It's a shame, because I found the premise of the book intriguing; I think the world building just wasn't developed enough for me. And the action seemed to drag. I'm giving this a one star because, no, I didn't like this, but I'm sure for other people it'll be just fine. Great, even, maybe.
review 2: loved almost everything about this book except that the world was thrown right at the reader from the first page. There were some things within the first few pages that I did not understand (that I later would know/could guess at), and it made it a bit hard for me to catch my footing, so to spea
... morek. Sometimes this is fun and works, but sometimes it makes me confused. THAT SAID, even though I sometimes had to refer back to figure out what something was (this happened only a few times, but for me world-building is so key that I'm a bit picky), it did not prevent me from enjoying the book at all. I was completely intrigued the entire time and can't wait to read the second one. I wanted to hate Dash but I couldn't (I felt like Felicita since I couldn't!), and am very curious about Jannick and what he will bring. less
