review 1: Facing possible detention or death by the Germans in WW II in Albania and trying to escape the country was something nurses and medics hadn't prepared for but they held up with bravery and trust in the Albanian partisans who helped them at each stage of their journey. I'd like to know how much complaining actually went on, something we're not privy to from this book and will probably will never know. But, the fact that they followed orders in a strange place where their lives depended on strangers and they managed to finally escape showed that they were made of strong constitutions. Their stories were inspirational and amazing. For someone who enjoys WW II true stories, this will be a good choice for you.
review 2: Story of a group of nurses and medics, part of
... more an air evacuation group of the air force, whose plane goes off course and crashes in Albania, behind German lines. They are rescued by Albanian partisans and the book is the story of their long trek to freedom. Terrible hardships, but what strength they all showed in slogging forth day after day. And the kindness shown to them in the small villages along the way by people who had shared what little they had. less

Writing was not great, but the story carried it once the introductions were complete.
