review 1: This book thoroughly engaged me, except for the trumped-up-psuedo-mystery around Phil. If those sections had been a bit tweaked, I'd have given this 4 stars. The protagonist Frank, is a delightful Everyman, and the passages with his daughter Moe are perfect. As another reviewer said, O'Flynn writes with a great understanding of the child's mind. Also, Frank's mother had me in stitches, there in the nursing home waiting to die. I know it doesn't sound funny, but trust me, it is!
review 2: A really wonderful, charming little book. Funny and heartwarming, with some really compelling storylines for the characters. The interwoven lives of the characters were lovely to read, and the characters themselves were brilliant, especially the delightfully written Mo and the
... morepityable Cyrill. Would definitely recommend this for a nice comfort read, with enough mysetry to keep you hooked throughout. less

It was OK with a few nice touches here and there, but not nearly as good as "What was lost".

A lovely book, beautifully written, about the sadness and absurdity of life.
