review 1: An amusing little book about craptacular places made all the more entertaining when you have Google Images and Wikipedia on standby. Unexpectedly, I've discovered a few places I might actually want to visit. Volunteer as a victim at Disaster City? Well why not, I don't do anything productive on my days off. There's a hole in Russia seven miles deep!? I love a little Cold War craziness, where's mah ticket? I wish that there were 1,001 entries of terrible places instead of only 101. Maybe I'll start my own list. Ah, the author forgot Zinneke Pis.
review 2: Crazy little travel book that anyone who has been through mishaps on trips/vacations can relate to. Here are some of the entries that stood out to me:Winchester Mystery House - staircases that go nowhere or hi... moredden rooms and unusual curios.Annual Poison Oak Show - couldn't believe they have a recipe contest!Mount Rushmore - that's all there is at the site, nothing else but a small souvenir shop.Four Corners, Utah, Colorado, Arizona & New Mexico - thanks to GPS technology, the four corners is not really the four corners, but they didn't feel like moving the site so it more of a monument to represent the four corners rather than the actual four corners.The Road of Death, El Camino de la Muerta, forty miles from Coroica to La Paz - the Inter American Development Bank has declared Yungas the World's Most Dangerous Road! The drop could be anywhere from twenty to three thousand feet. And most people say a special prayer before travelling on the road!!!Jupiter's Worst Moon - it is the most volcanic object in the solar system.The Room Where Spam Subject Lines Are Created - just HATE spam.Shangri-La - it's imaginary, but some people inspired by the book tried to find it (may be based on the legend of Shambala) or create their own (sounds like the town that tried to change its name to 'Mayberry').Amateur Night at a Shooting Range - no supervision or medical personnel on hand - oh so scary!Shores of Burundis Lake Tanganyika When Gustave if Hungry - giant crocodile, watch out!New South China Mall - 7.1 Million square feet, largest mall in the world and fewer that a dozen stores occupied.Honorable mention to StoneHenge - didn't know it was surrounded by a fence due to vandals!The writer gives an insider's view of the places features, so either she has been there or knows someone who has. The imaginary places were places were a creative touch. The writing is truthful and humorous. If you've been on a vacation and said "that's it???", you can relate or add your own entry less
