review 1: Terrific book! I was caught up in Susannah's life as she headed out to the Dakota Territory to meet her husband, a perfect stranger. Jesse was the complete opposite of Susannah which was exactly what she needed to help bring her out of her shell. Around the last quarter of the book Jesse has to leave to find work away from the farm. At first I was frustrated but after finishing the book I saw that Susannah really needed that time to find herself, her strength and the courage to become the wife Jesse needed and the child of God she deeply longed to be.NOTE: this book, unlike many Christian Romance novels, is NOT recommended for young girls. There are a lot of sexual references in it. Nothing too dirty but more than would be appropriate for teenage g... moreirls.
review 2: Susannah is considered an "old maid" by the time she agrees to travel to Dakota Territory to marry a man she's never met. She was even married "by proxy" back east, since there were no ministers in the area her husband was homesteading (I'm going to have to look that up...proxy marriage?? Never heard of that before between two live human beings). But Susannah's had a hard life with unloving parents, and she's not the match Jesse hoped for. Their journey together as a married couple was fascinating, sweet, and fun to read.This was a cute book that I really enjoyed. The "faith" aspect of it was nice, but not in any way overpowering. The last 1/3 of the book had a whole lot of calamities, disasters, and character development happening for Susannah, but hardly any Jesse. By the time we got to see both of them again he felt like a stranger to me. I loved seeing how Susannah grew and changed, though. Really well done. less
