review 1: It's hard to rate a book I didn't finish, but I figure that's enough of a reason for a one-star rating. I've read good books before--books that I couldn't put down. And because I know there are great books out there, I don't waste my time reading books that are just so-so. I gave this one 40 pages, and I just couldn't get into it. The writing was drab. Lots of telling, rather than "showing" like we're all admonished to do as writers these days. Too many non-essential characters in the beginning...I just couldn't keep them straight and really didn't care who they were. So I put the book down and I probably won't pick it up again.
review 2: This was bad! The description on the back of the book seemed really interesting, but it went downhill after that. The writ... moreing was really poor too. Cathy Marie Hake would lose me quite a number of times, thinking I had missed something I went back to read the whole page and discovered I hadn't. The ending was predictable. "That Certain Spark" had no spark whatsoever. The constant bickering between Taylor and Enoch really got on my nerves. I didn't realize this was a Christian author until I started reading it and felt it was just thrown into a bad story line, somehow fake. less
