review 1: A predictable but enjoyable what-if mystery in which a man may have been murdered, Jane Austen may be a plagiarist and it's up to a young antiquarian bookseller to solve both mysteries. Conservative readers may object to several references to and scenes depicting casual sex, and to more than a dozen instances of explicit language, especially at the end, which felt a bit rushed and unsatisfactory. The hero was underdeveloped, and the secondary characters didn't add much to flesh out the story world, but it was still an entertaining escape. A must-read for Austen bibliophiles.
review 2: A nice mystery wrapped around love stories occurring several centuries apart. Anyone interested in history of book printing, authors and writing should become a fan of Charlie Lov
... moreett's novels. Here Jane Austen is juxtaposed against Sophia, a modern day book lover and collector. When her beloved uncle Bertram dies mysteriously she sets out to find the person responsible and to re-collect his book collection of personal favorites which her father had sold off in an effort to find resources for badly needed repairs to the family home. Fun read. less

3.5. The formulaic is always forgiven when a book is really a love letter to literature.

Cute mystery, but too much sex. Jane Austen would not approve.
