review 1: It was entertaining at first, or so it seemed but then rapidly, it turned into the author/narrator telling you over and over how cool he is, while disguising it as a behind the scene view of working at Disneyworld. What the pitch of the book promises is not what you get indeed. Instead, you just witness some badly written, self pity memoir and not much about the announced Disneyworld dark secret. If I'm honest, it felt to me like you could replace 'disney' by any other big corporation where the employees are mostly underpaid 20-something and you would get the same result. On top of it, from what I've just read in other comments, the author doesn't even seem to be a reliable source of information when it comes to the facts described in this book. After inflicting myself hal... moref of the book, I couldn't take it anymore so I dropped it, I certainly have better to do with my time.
review 2: I must first reveal that I read this book for research, not pleasure. So, I didn't set a high standard for the writing. However, it was an easy read. The book's biggest strength are the tidbits about the inner workings of Disney - the hierarchy of cast members, how they are selected, backroom scene. The problem of the book is that there aren't enough of these. At times, like the name "memoir" implies, the book is simply about the author. Nevertheless it is worth reading if you are a Disney fan. You will never look at the Chip & Dale the same way. less
