review 1: Another cute addition to the Ottoline series. These are fun reads for young readers who are not quite ready for larger chapter books or just want a quick entertaining read. My favorite part is the illustrations, which are brilliant. In this adventure Ottoline begins attending Alice B. Smith's School for the Differently Gifted so she can spend more time with her lonely moody friend Cecily. Cecily was not the most likeable character though and annoyed me greatly. Hopefully, she isn't in the third book.
review 2: I adored the first Ottoline book (Ottoline and the Yellow Cat) and this one was such a disappointment. Ottoline is pretty incosiderate to her friend Mr. Munroe and that is never resolved in a satisfactory way. I also didn't like the "differently gifted" t
... moreerminology used - it feels like an arch, wink-wink kind of thing directed as parents and I am not sure what kids would take away from that. ALSO (and perhaps most important) I thought it was strange that Cecily's behavior was blamed completely on her parents. To me, the whole book just seemed to hit a wrong note. That being said, my 6yo liked it a lot which is why it is getting 2 stars and not 1. Do read "Ottoline and the Yellow Cat" though - it's a wonderful book! less
