review 1: The Love Shack--book 3 in the Beach House #9 trilogy--will please fans of the previous two books as it brings secondary characters from the earlier books front and center. Skye Alexander is trying to keep the little beachfront resort in Crescent Cove going, while hiding from everyone the trauma that has her slouching around in baggy clothes trying to be invisible. Photojournalist Gage Lowell has rented Beach House #9 to try to recover from trauma in his own life and to reconnect with Skye, a child hood friend whose letters while he was in a war zone helped keep him sane. Sparks fly between the two but getting beyond the drama in their pasts will take a lot of effort. And Gage may be off again soon throwing himself in harm's way. Should they risk it? Christie Ridgeway tells... more an appealing love story here and as a nice bonus two other characters from the first two books also get their happily ever after. This can be read on its own but will be even more fun for readers who have read the first two Beach House books.
review 2: This one was my favorite from the series (would be tied for first with book one, really, except that I wasn't totally convinced of Griffin's "cure" at the end, which bumps this one up a bit). It was gratifying to see Gage and Skye finally reunite in this one--the inclusion of some of their letters during the time they were pen pals was a lot of fun and a nice touch. I liked that their issues were believable and their conflict realistic--too many books I've read lately just feel so...forced. Sure, the ending of this one was predictable, but in a good way. You *want* these two to get together, and you want it to be believable, so--win-win. All the loose threads from the other books were neatly tied up in this one, and seeing characters return from the other books--especially Griff and Jane--was like being reunited with old friends. The only part of the novel that was "less than" for me was the conclusion of the mystery of the jeweled collar. Really, though, that's been the plot thread throughout that has felt the weakest, so it wasn't surprising. Still, this was a fun series that definitely put me in the mood for a tropical vacation--a nice break from the never-ending winter we seem to be stuck in this year. less
