review 1: The three star review is not meant as negative, in fact I enjoyed it so much I've just bought The Wedding Cake by the same author, it's a very quick easy read which I really enjoyed.John Bonner has more money than he will ever spend what he doesn't have is social acceptance and that he's prepared to buy. Eleanor Friske is the woman he's decided is his best option, her father needed money, lots of it and quickly so a deal was struck an introduction and second payment upon announcement of the betrothal a straight forward deal. Mrs Friske however has other ideas and is desperate for Eleanor to marry well and by well she means a title and a big proper wedding. All this manovering is fine but what happens when feeling become involved, who will win and will love conquer all.This... more was a lovely book with great characters and despite Mrs Friske being a real pain she was funny telling Eleanor not to look so tall while dressing her with huge feathers sticking from the top of her head. It's free and well worth a read if you like good old fashioned period romances.
review 2: This story was so cute. Of course, I would have been much happier if it was a full-length novel instead of a short story. I liked the lead characters Ellie and John, they were cute together and I'm sure their story could have been spanned a few more chapters. Regardless, it was well done as a short novel. Normally, I find that short novels gloss over events or ignore them altogether in order to keep it brief. The Bride hit all the necessary elements and made it felt that nothing was missed only that they didn't expand on the details. I was happy with it. less
