review 1: I didn't realize this book was the 2nd in a series, so I think I probably should have read the first one first. I did enjoy the main character and the story as a whole -- the setting was exotic and interesting. But since missing the first in the series, I think the relationship between the main characters and their past histories did not grip me as much as it could have, and I missed some of the implications behind the treasure hunting that were part of the first book. I did enjoy the back-and-forth between the two time periods covered in the book.
